Happy back to school month! July has been a pretty exciting month for us around here! We finally got a newsletter out, got a new addition to the WON family, Silver Wear, are working on revamping the website, started having classes again and started the planning & work for our 40th Anniversary sales & celebrations in September. The Anniversary celebration will actually start this month with a lecture from one of my most beloved mentors, Roslyn Rogers. Roslyn is a hormone guru and an anti-aging inspiration. She has been here to lecture for us for the past 8 years. She will share valuable information about menopause, hormone imbalances, PMS, anti-aging and much more. This is a class you will not want to miss!

    Tea of the month: Matcha

    by Sage Vinson
Matcha, a powdered form of green tea,  originates in ancient Japan when Buddhist monk Eisai popularized the idea of drinking green tea to improve one's health. Matcha is rich in many phytochemicals including anti-oxidants, L-theanine, catechins, and naturally occurring caffeine. Although the caffeine content of matcha is lower than coffee, the other phytochemicals work synergistically to deliver a slow, steady release of energy that won't give you the jitters. Matcha can also aid in weight loss, heart health, reversing cellular damage, and promoting calmness without drowsiness! To prepare, just whisk 1 to 2 teaspoons of matcha into a cup of hot water.

    Essential Oil of the Month
    by Kristin Montana
It is time to nourish and treat your skin. Do you suffer from acne, wrinkles or cellulite? If yes, then Rose Geranium is the essential oil for you. This wonderful floral scented oil has been used for centuries; the Egyptians used it to promote radiant and beautiful skin. Rose Geranium essential oil is full of wonderful health benefits beyond helping the skin such as, promoting emotional wellness, reducing fatigue, and it also works as a hormone balancer. However, with this dry hot heat that we are having it is time to give our skin some TLC. Rose Geranium aides in the aging process by tightening the skin helping with wrinkles; it can reduce scars and other skin spots as well. Rose Geranium helps with the skin due to its ability to support new cell growth and increase blood flow below the surface of the skin. It also has been shown to work with eczema and dermatitis. With Rose Geraniums' beautiful scent and healthy skin benefits it is nice to add it to lotions, body washes, or even a Body Salt Scrub. A scrub is a nice way to exfoliate, and allow the oil to absorb into the skin. Come down to WON and check out this wonderful essential oil.

Salt Scrub Recipe for a 10 oz jar:
    • 1 cup Himalayan salt
    • 1/2 cup grapeseed oil or another skin nourishing oil
    • 5-7 drops of Rose Geranium oil, or more if desired
    AromaLocket
    by Matrix Aromatherapy

    What is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is a holistic form of therapy that utilizes the extracted essences of various plants, herbs, and roots called essential oils. The therapeutic qualities of essential oils are believed to offer several healing possibilities from energy levels to a sense of emotional and physical well-being. Aromatherapy is as easy as taking a breath of the concentrated essential oils, allowing the aromatic molecules to enter your bloodstream and travel throughout your body.

Each essential oil offers unique healing qualities because of their individual chemical profiles. The therapeutic qualities of essential oils can be classified as relaxing, stimulating, or balancing, though there are numerous additional healing possibilities that may be attained from each oil. Essential oils are also known to have antiviral, antibacterial, anti-fungal, and decongestant properties. Some of the most common essential oils used in Aromatherapy are lavender, peppermint, lemon, eucalyptus, and tea tree. Often, these oils are blended together to treat a specific purpose such as headache relief or nausea.

The use of Aromatherapy in health care settings has become much more common over the past few years, ranging in application from hospitals for stress and nausea, to massage therapy centers for relaxation and pain reduction. Aromatherapy has even been introduced to senior care facilities to help with agitation and improving sleep. The wide range of healing possibilities and holistic nature of Aromatherapy has prompted its rapid growth throughout the healthcare industry.

We are now offering a fun, stylish, convenient way to get your aromatherapy throughout your day thanks to Matrix Aromatherapy, a company developed right here in Nampa, Idaho.  These beautiful AromaLockets are stainless steel and come in a variety of gorgeous options. Which AromaLocket will you choose?

    Kris's August Product Picks
Since my favorite hormone guru, Roslyn Rogers will be here talking to us about hormones at the end of the month I decided to share with you my own personal favorite hormone products. A lot of these products I have taken for years and it doesn’t usually take very long without them before I notice how much of a difference they make in my life.

The first place I always look when my hormones feel off is my liver health. If I neglect to take either Liver Care by Himalaya or the amazing herb, Milk Thistle within just a short time I start to feel PMS symptoms. I get irritable, cramps and my skin will break out like I'm a teenager.

Diindolylmethane (try saying that 3 times really fast!) or DIM (if you aren't up for the fun with herbal words challenge) is a supplement that I have taken for years and years. It is also one that I notice for several reasons when I run out. The most noticeable result I get by taking DIM is that I store less belly fat. There are also a lot of great healing and protective properties that I don't physically notice so much but I know it is benefiting my health. The first and most important thing DIM does is reduce the amount of bad estrogens in the body. This is so important for a variety of reasons but breast cancer prevention is the biggest one.  It can also be helpful if you suffer from typical female troubles like PMS, period pain, headaches, cellulite and moodiness. And for the men it helps reduce prostate issues, man boobs and the beer belly.
With all of the bad estrogens and xenoestrogens we are exposed to on a daily basis, we should all be taking a DIM supplement.

And last but not least by any means, is the amazing, Amazon herb Maca! If you have ever talked to me you know how much I love herbs and Maca is one of my favorites. It has so many great health benefits, but is best known for its role in hormone regulation for both men and women. Maca has a positive effect on fertility, sexual function, energy, strength and mood balance. It also tastes pretty good so adding a teaspoon to your protein drink or smoothie only enhances the flavor.
    Raw Honey

We have a variety of new raw honeys in the store ranging from Acacia to Tupelo. Each honey has a unique flavor profile and varying apitherapy properties. The color of these raw honeys range from white to dark brown. It is important to buy raw honey because it naturally contains a variety of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, antioxidants and works as a natural prebiotic. Any honey that is not certified raw does not contain all these amazing properties. Here's a few amazing delicious honeys and there different medicinal benefits:

Acacia honey: has been called the best honey in the world, a good choice for diabetics, aids in cleansing the liver, helps in conditioning the intestines, and provides benefits for the respiratory system due to its antibacterial properties.

Buckwheat honey: one of your best options to help suppress coughs and colds, also rich in antioxidants with a  molasses like taste.

Manuka honey: Coming from New Zealand and Australia well known for its healing properties, it is up to 4 times stronger than other honeys, contains a much higher level of enzymes than regular honeys, contains a natural hydrogen peroxide which works as an antibacterial, can work as a natural antibiotic, and one of its most well known purposes is for healing staph.

Orange Blossom honey: Great for athletes as it can help improve recovery time due to its ability to help the body maintain its glycogen levels, this honey is best to be avoided if you are diabetic because it is higher on the glycemic index.

Raw honey is also a great alternative sweetener for diabetics because it is low on the glycemic index. However, as with any sugar, diabetics should practice caution and use moderation when consuming honey. Honey is not recommended for those with allergies to bee products.
