Our bodies have a variety of “systems”. We have a cardiovascular system, a digestive system, a musculoskeletal system, a respiratory system, an endocannibanoid system, a nervous system, an immune system, and so on. All of these systems play a vital role in our health and our immune system is there to defend us from outside viral and bacterial predators. It is quite fascinating how it knows exactly how to fight off the invaders! We do so many things to ourselves on a daily basis that weaken, instead of support the immune system.
As a business owner, there have been several days during my career that I could not call in sick because if I did, I would have had to close the store. In those moments I realized how important (especially when your livelihood depends on it!) it is to keep your immune system in top shape. As well as taking a lot of immune boosting supplements, I started to make sure to add some daily lifestyle practices. Here is a list of practices I have incorporated into my life over the past few years:

  • Avoid sugar - Eating or drinking too much sugar curbs immune system cells that attack bacteria.
  • Drink water – WATER, WATER, WATER!! The universal remedy for almost anything that ails you!
  • Rest - your body needs time to repair so it can fight off the bad bugs.
  • Exercise – recent studies have suggested that if you complete moderate exercise just a few times every week, you can drastically reduce the number of colds that you get every year.
  • Yoga - Yoga gives a holistic uplifting approach to your body and works great in reducing stress levels, a primary reason for a weak immune system.
  • Dry Skin Brush – A great way to cleanse the lymph system, which helps boost immunity.
  • Cold showers – A cold shower in the morning does more than wake you up and improve your circulation. The cold dilates your blood vessels, which strengthens your immune system.
  • Eat a whole food diet with LOTS of spices! Spices are like little soldiers for health that add delicious flavor to food.
  • Keep my gut healthy – A big variety of probiotics in the form of supplements and fermented foods with fiber to feed those good bugs.
  • Get outside to get God’s version of vitamin D as much as possible!

If you don’t have time to be healthy right now, you will have to make the time to be sick! ~ Kris Wear
