Mother's Day DIY

DIY gifts for someone we all love, Moms! Give your mom a gift that comes from the heart while at the same time filled with all natural ingredients. 



-Calming Magnesium Body Butter
-Tea Tree and Mint Foot Scrub
-DIY Peel Off Charcoal Mask
-Bath Bombs
 
 
Calming Magnesium Body Butter
Ingredients:
-1/2 cup magnesium flakes (great for relaxing muscle tissue, if you suffer from chronic cramping, restless leg, tendonitis, or carpal tunnel magnesium can be very beneficial to relax the muscle tissue. Some cases of Charlie horses and restless leg can be due to a magnesium deficiency.)
-3 tbsp boiling water
-1/4 cup coconut oil (antifungal, antimicrobial and helps soften skin)
-1 tbsp beeswax pastilles
-3 tbsp shea butter (due to its fatty acids it is incredibly nourishing and moisturizing for the skin, reduces inflammation due to its cinnamic acid content)
-1-quart mason jar
-2 coffee mugs
-immersion blender
-20 drops lavender essential oil (calming and antispasmodic)
-15 drops cedarwood essential oil (increases circulation and blood flow, good for varicose veins and a lymphatic mover) and or frankincense essential oil (decreases inflammatory response, skin tonifies and increases cellular regeneration)
-10 drops cypress essential oil (decreases swelling, good for varicose veins, decreases cellulite)
-15 drops grapefruit essential oil (tonifying and tightening for the skin, increases lipolysis for fat, supports the liver thus helping with fluid)
 
  1. Measure magnesium flakes into a mug. Fill another mug halfway with boiling water. Measure 3 tbsp of boiling water into the mug with the flakes. Stir until the flakes are dissolved and set aside.
  2. In the quart mason jar, measure coconut oil, beeswax, and shea butter. Place the jar in a small pan filled with 1-2 in of water. Place it on the stove and turn the heat to medium high.
  3. Allow the solids to melt, swirling the jar now occasionally if necessary. (Be sure to wear an oven mitt.)
  4. When everything inside the jar is melted remove it from the pan. Let cool for a few minutes.
  5. Pour the dissolved magnesium into the quart mason jar. If it solidifies upon contact, that’s ok. Place the immersion blender at the bottom of the jar and blend everything together really well, moving the blender up and down along the sides of the jar as necessary to incorporate the ingredients. In the middle of blending the ingredients add your essential oils. Use the immersion blender until everything is whipped and fluffy.
 
This makes about 4-8 ounces of lotion. Store at room temperature in a cupboard for up to 2-3 months.
 
 
Tea Tree and Mint Foot Scrub

 
Ingredients:
-apricot oil (helps restore and aid in repair damage skin)
-Hiwakai black lava salt (detoxifying and exfoliating tough skin, can help inflammation because of the aromatic Sulphur)
-5 drops tea tree essential oil (antibacterial and antifungal properties)
-7 drops peppermint essential oil (analgesic, anti-inflammatory properties)
 
  1. Fill the jar with salt about ¾ full
  2. Add the carrier oil so that it completely covers the salt
  3. Add 5 drops of tea tree and 7 drops peppermint oil
 
This foot scrub is pretty tingly which can be invigorating on those toesies 
 
 
DIY Peel off Activated Charcoal Mask

 
Bentonite clay and activated charcoal work together to act as magnets, pulling dirt, blackheads and sebum out of your pores. Gelatin brings it all together and slows the “magnets” to adhere to your skin for a more effective detox.
  • 1 tsp Activated Charcoal
  • ½ tsp Bentonite Clay
  • 1 1/2 tsp Gelatin
  • 2 tbsp hot water
 
  1. Mix all dry ingredients in a small bowl. Do not use metal measuring spoons because they will lessen the effectiveness of your bentonite clay and charcoal.
  2. Add 2 tbsp of hot water. Be sure your water is hot when you add it to your dry ingredients or your mixture will not blend well.
  3. Once the mask is liquid and smooth, check the temp before applying to your skin.
  4. Apply evenly over the skin. Be aware that the thicker you apply it, the longer it will take to adhere to the skin. A thick layer is not necessary and will just prolong the time the mask needs to set on the skin.
  5. Once the mask is dry and tight, begin peeling.
  6. If you have applied the mask too close to the hair line or brows or it is too painful to remove, warm water will loosen and remove it.
Your skin will be quite pink after you’ve peeled it off. This is normal. The bentonite clay will bring blood to the surface as well as impurities. The pink will subside within 20 min. This mask could also be used as just a nose mask or even a T-zone mask. Where you have the most blackheads.
 
 
 
Bath bombs for Mom

-3tbsp – 1/4c Epsom salt
-1/2 c baking soda
-1/2 c arrowroot powder (you can also cornstarch or potato starch)
-1/4 c or more citric acid
-1tbsp coconut oil (an excellent moisturizer, is antimicrobial and antifungal) or oil of your choice
-10-15 drops of lavender essential oil
or
-15 drops of bergamot
-Witch Hazel in a spray bottle
-Sprinkle a little beet root for a light pink color or turmeric powder for a light yellow color
Start by mixing all of the dry ingredients in a large bowl. Add the coconut oil and mix with your hands until it is mixed really well. Add your Rose Otto or Rose Perfume essential oil. Mix together really well. Spray witch hazel into the bowl about 5 sprays at a time and mix. Repeat this until you have made the texture.
Tips and Tricks
Baking soda to citric acid is a ratio of 2:1 if you would like to make a larger batch. You can add clay to make a harder bath bomb or to also absorb moisture. Sift your dry ingredients to avoid bumpy texture. If you use a metal mold you need to have a wetter consistency to your mixture.
